Ama Mi

                                                                Ama Mi

Ama mi nga adda't sadi langit,
Madaydayaw kuma ti nagan mo.
Dumteng kuma ti pagariam,
Matungpal kuma ti nakemmo.
Ditoy daga a kas sadi langit,
Wen ditoy daga a kas sadi langit.

Itdem kadakam iti aldaw ditoy,
Ti kanen mi iti patinayon nga aldaw.
Pakawanem dagiti basolmi
Akas met iti pammakawan mi
Iti basol dagiti makabasol kadakami
Dinakam met baybay-an nga umannugot
Iti solisog
Isalakannakam iti dakes.

During weekends, when I was in grade school my father used to let me sing this song every night while massaging his back at night.  It's the Ilocano version of Our Father (Ama Mi), usually sang by the  Catholic churchgoers on Sundays during the Eucharistic celebration.  It has different versions.  I love this song! I feel at peace whenever I sing it or just humming the tune.

Sunday Treat

Photographed by alittlethingcalledragsak, March 16, 2014

Whatta Sunday treat to myself!   Indeed a motivating lure for working hard, for appreciating life and the moment to taste flavorful food.  I had my breakfast at foodcourt Shangri-la, Bagnet Boy- the metro version of bagnet with tomato salad and bugguong and sukang Iloco with soup for 99 pesos.  Then after the mass at Megamall, Ted's Lapaz Batchoy extra super, the old time favorites for lunch- 90 pesos and the ever favorito! Jamaican pattie - beef Pinatubo - 50 pesos plus calamansi drink-25 pesos for dinner. Happy tummy! (",)

See you on my next food treat (",)

Journey by Roger Crisostomo

Photographed by alittlethingcalledragsak, March 16, 2014

The lady told me that there were group of souls who had an eye on this painting (the last photo) and wanted to buy it but the painter refused to sell.

I love the paintings! It depicts the culture, tradition and values of people in my beautiful country especially in Ilocos.  Ilocos Norte is mostly agriculture and until these days the Bayanihan (helping each other) in farming is still prevalent.

I hope the show will extend so many people especially the young generation will have the chance to see and be reminded of the forgotten values.

This time I have decided to add painting lesson in my bucket list.  I will start painting soon! (",)

Kuribot

Do you have any idea what is it for?  For an Ilocano like me who grew up in the province, you know exactly what I mean. Kuribot is made of  woven bamboo.  It is a grass carrier. Grass that are edible for animals like carabao, cow, goat and even pig. Everyday you will see this kuribot in the life of  every farmer.  It can also carry human like "ubing" (child) especially if the ubing is natuleng. (hard-headed/naughty).

My father used to have this kind of carrier when he was still alive.  I used to play with it like a basketball ring.

Sometime this summer, I would like to carry it again.  It always feels good to try! (",)

Inartem

If your taste bud is craving for something sour-sweet-salty-vinegar-y, go try inartem. Inartem means pickled. Yes, it is a pickled fruit. Seasonal fruits like green mangoes, turnips,"balayang", papaya, carmay, tamarind, santol, sarguelas, etc. are being sliced and drenched  in sukang Iloco. The longer the fruits are aged in suka (Ilocano vinegar) with some salt, the better.  Just put the washed and drained fruits in a sterile jar, pour over sukang Iloko (cane vinegar), sprinkle with salt, and marinate for a week.

It is not just  inartem, it is a tradition! For me, it is on my childhood list of favorite foodies.  The jars of inartem is located infront of BJC, near the municipality building.

Hmmmmmm, agkatayak pay! (",)
